Photos: Bobcats drop 1-0 decision to Notre Dame College

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan men’s soccer (2-2-0) returned home on Sunday (March 21) and fell by a final decision of 1-0 to Notre Dame College (Ohio) (2-1-0).

The first half saw wall-to-wall action in a fast-paced half. At the six-minute mark, Notre Dame found their name on the scoresheet. Marcus Vinicius Pereira was taken down in the box after freshman Logan Nelson made an errant attempt to clear the ball out of the area. The referee awarded the Falcons with a penalty kick from the 12-yard mark. Lukas Hackaa stepped up to the spot and placed the ball into the bottom left corner to put the Falcons up 1-0.

The action didn’t conclude there. In the 22nd minute, Carlos Sanchez Mora was taken down in the box by a Notre Dame defender during a set-piece. Sinasi Emre Deniz stepped up to take the penalty kick for the Bobcats, but NDC keeper Arvid Engstrom guessed correctly and saved Deniz’s attempt to place the ball into the bottom left corner.

WVWC outshot the Falcons 9-2 in the first half, but could not find an equalizer.

In the tale of two halves, the Falcons overwhelmed the Bobcats in the second half outshooting the ‘Cats 8-1. The depleted Bobcats found themselves a man down for the second game in a row. Logan Nelson had his collegiate debut end early when he received a straight red card after taking down a Notre Dame attacker on a one-on-one collision at the edge of the box.

WVWC finished the game with 10 players and could not find a late equalizer.

Wesleyan men’s soccer is scheduled to be back in action on Friday (March 26) at Davis & Elkins. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Nutall Field in Elkins, W.Va.
