Have you tried the ‘slop’ or the ‘trough’ yet? Oinks BBQ makes its debut in downtown Buckhannon

As planned, Oink's BBQ opened its doors Monday, Jan. 4, 2021.

BUCKHANNON – Oinks BBQ LLC opened its doors Jan. 4, 2021, offering dine-in, carryout and curbside delivery options.

That’s right – Buckhannon has a resident barbecue restaurant again, where patrons can enjoy barbecue staples such as pulled pork, brisket, ribs, chicken and even some unique signature dishes. Owner Cindi Alkire said her favorite item on the menu is the ‘slop’ and the ‘trough.’

“My favorite would have to be the slop with the tater tots, pork, nacho cheese, sour cream, bacon and barbecue sauce or the trough with nacho chips, cheese, pork, lettuce, jalapenos, sour cream and barbecue sauce,” Alkire said. “I think those items are pretty unique and they’re definitely my favorite.”

Another signature dish is the ‘pig pen,’ which is a smoked potato with pulled pork, cheddar cheese, sour cream, bacon, green onions and barbecue sauce. Alkire said the most popular item of Monday’s grand opening was the pulled pork.

“It’s gone well, we’ve had a few hiccups, but all in all, we’ve had a really good day,” Alkire said.

Patrons have a choice of three different sauces to go with their barbecue, including sweet barbecue, hot barbecue and a mustard-based barbecue sauce.

“We had to have the staples – pulled pork, brisket – and I added the chicken for people that didn’t care for the pulled pork or the brisket, to give them a little something different,” Alkire said. “I wanted to add a salad for people wanting to eat a little healthier. We have a little something for the kids. I know they’re not big on pulled pork, so we have chicken tenders and grilled cheese for them. We just tried to have a little bit of something for everybody.”

Oinks BBQ is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with dine-in, carryout and curbside options.

“We are constantly wiping stuff down, we’re wiping down our barbecue sauce bottles, the tables are getting cleaned and wiped down as soon as people leave – everything’s getting wiped down constantly,” Alkire said. “Everybody has to have a mask on when they walk through the door.”

In the future, Alkire said they are hoping to start doing specials that will be posted on Facebook, offering soups and hosting a special wing night.

Oinks BBQ is located on North Kanawha Street in the former Miss Piggies location.
