ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis Health System has designed two drive-thru clinics to offer safe and efficient medical care for minor illness and injury. The clinics are located at DirectCare of Elkins on the Beverly 5-Lane, and the Alternative Screening Unit on the campus of Davis Medical Center (DMC) in Elkins.
The sites were initially set up as COVID-19 testing sites.
According to Davis Health System Chief Medical Officer Catherine “Mindy” Chua, DO, FMNM, CPE, expanding more medical screenings to the drive-thru’ s maintains a cleaner, safer environment in the physician practice clinics at DMC and DirectCare.
“Those patients who come for well-checks, annual visits, and chronic disease management can do so with less exposure to others who may have a contagious virus,” Chua said. “The drive-thru clinics are also more efficient for those who need quick treatment without an appointment.”
Dr. Chua said the positive public response to the drive-thru model of care influenced DHS leadership to expand the availability of screenings. The screenings and treatments at both locations include RSV, sore throat, strep, fever, flu, rashes, aches, nausea, UTI and other.
COVID-19 testing is available at both DirectCare and the Alternative Screening Unit.
The DMC drive-thru is open Monday – Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm; and, Saturday from 8 am to Noon. On Saturdays, COVID-19 screenings only at the DMC site.
DirectCare of Elkins offers drive-thru service Monday thru Friday from 8 am to 8 pm; Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm; and, Sunday from Noon to 4 pm. DirectCare offers both sick visits and COVID screenings on all days.
Instructions for the drive-thru are as follows:
- Patients remain in their car at all times.
- They will be instructed to call to register for their visit.
- A care provider will attend to patients in their vehicle.
- Patients will be called with results that are processed through the lab.
- Prescriptions ordered through Health Center Pharmacy will be available via curbside pickup at their location at Davis Medical Center.
