10 new COVID-19 cases reported in Upshur County on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported 10 new COVID-19 cases in Upshur County on Tuesday. Sixty-two cases are active locally.

With Tuesday’s numbers, Upshur County now has the second-highest rate of infection in the state, behind only Tucker County. Upshur is red in that category and orange by percent positive, although the latter metric is the primary subject of a lawsuit filed by teachers on Monday seeking to return to the original, un-tweaked school alert map.

The recent outbreak that has closed schools and sports in parts of north-central West Virginia showed no signs of abating on Tuesday, with Harrison County reporting 13 new cases, Randolph County 10 and Barbour County eight.

Additional free testing is available in Upshur County, today, October 6, from noon to 6 p.m. at Buckhannon-Upshur High School, 270 BU Drive.

Statewide, the DHHR announced Tuesday that 194 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Three additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 82-year old male from Kanawha County, a 64-year old female from Cabell County, and a 72-year old male from Cabell County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., October 6, 2020, there have been 599,040 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 16,936 total cases and 364 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Tuesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Doddridge, Fayette, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Monroe, Ohio, Pleasants, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Taylor, Upshur, Wayne, Webster and Wood counties.

About 4,330 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 12,242 people have recovered and 364 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.75%.
