Mark your calendar for SUBA’s Virtual Meet the Candidates event Oct. 6

ROCK CAVE — The Southern Upshur Business Association is taking its traditional Meet the Candidates Night to a virtual platform in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ahead of the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election, SUBA is hosting a Virtual Meet the Candidates Night from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 on Zoom, a video and web conferencing platform that’s free to download.

“We have candidates from governor to state senators participating,” SUBA president Kevin Campbell said. “You can join live and enter questions through chat on Zoom using the link or watch live on SUBA Facebook page or watch recorded version on SUBA Facebook page after the event.”

So, how will the event work? First, interested attendees should head to the SUBA’s Meet the Candidates Night event page and click the designated link to register (or simply click here). Next, if Zoom isn’t already installed on your laptop or desktop, head to zoom.us to download the application. Android, iPhone and other smartphone users may download Zoom from their App store for free.

A few minutes ahead of the event, click the link on SUBA’s Facebook page below the text ‘Join Zoom Meeting.”

Campbell says a recording of the event will be made available for anyone who isn’t able to participate live.

“Tune in and join in or watch it later,” he said. “Don’t vote without being informed.”

All county, state and national candidates representing Upshur County listed on the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website were invited to participate via their contact email. View and search for a list of Upshur County candidates here.

This SUBA event is being sponsored by the Mountain Lakes Preservation Alliance.

The early voting period begins Saturday, Oct. 21, but anyone with concerns about COVID-19 wishing to vote absentee may request a ballot through the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Absentee Application portal. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
