BCHA brings Neurofeedback Therapy to Barbour County

Jessie Massimino, BA and Robert Kiser, MA, MT-BC, NCC, LPC and Neurofeedback Practitioner demonstrate a Neurofeedback Therapy session in their Belington office.

Belington, WV (May 28, 2019) – Barbour Community Health Association is pleased to announce their newest initiative, Neurofeedback Therapy, is now available for patients.

Recently, Barbour Behavioral Health has completed training to work in Neurofeedback and are working towards the gold standard of certification in order to maximize their skills. BCHA is one of only a handful Federally Qualified Health Center’s in the nation using this technique.

Neurofeedback is a noninvasive treatment that Barbour Behavioral Health’s team looks forward to implementing for the treatment of both mental health conditions and substance abuse. It’s also a complementary treatment which allows integration with other therapy methods.

This treatment is a targeted brain training program, similar to how a physical therapist trains different parts of the body during treatment. BCHA plans to use the Neurofeedback program for those struggling with substance abuse, ADHD, panic attacks, depression, anxiety and other conditions.

“Particularly, the use of Neurofeedback is a different way to tackle both mental health and substance abuse concerns. While medications are an effective treatment for mental health and substance abuse, in many aspects they only address certain areas of impact.

Neurofeedback provides an opportunity to retrain how the brain is operating, potentially enhancing a more lasting recovery and further improving quality of life” says Dr. Aaron Williams, Director of the Barbour Behavioral Health Department.

Barbour Community Health Association has trained through Neurofield Inc. which also provides the software that will be used within the clinics. BCHA’s goals are to make this new treatment affordable to patients in the area, expand the program within BCHA and make the service available to patients from other organizations in the region as a compliment to existing treatments.
