Firefighters battle blaze on Pinnell Street; fire contained to one room

BUCKHANNON – No one was injured in a fire that broke out at a residence on Pinnell Street near Holy Rosary Catholic Church Sunday evening.

Buckhannon Chief J.B. Kimble said the fire was contained to one room of the house.

“We have not determined at this time what caused the fire, but it is not suspicious,” Kimble said.

The Washington District Volunteer Fire Company and Adrian and Warren District volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene, as well as Upshur County EMS.

The Buckhannon Fire Department also received a few calls during the thunderstorm that occurred Sunday. A power pole on Pringle Tree Park Road caused a minor fire during the storm. Kimble said when there are high winds, they can move the insulators, which result in moisture entering them and power poles catching on fire.

“If people to see something like this, they do need to call 911, and then we’ll be dispatched, and as long as it isn’t near a house or a structure, it isn’t typically a huge concern so we’ll get a power pole number and call it in,” Kimble said. “Typically, what happens is the transformer will burn until the fuses blow in it and then the power goes off and once you lose the power, the heat source is gone and the fire goes out.

“Sometimes, they get worse but that’s the normal situation.”

Kimble said the department received around five calls for fallen trees and power poles and one motor vehicle accident that happened around 10:30 p.m.

However, no one was seriously injured in any of the incidents.
