Track and field Lady Bucs debut at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc track and field team opened their 2024 campaign in the Connect Bridgeport Invitational at Bridgeport High School this past Friday.

The team finished 11th out of 11 teams with 29 points.

Morgantown won the team title with 166 points while Bridgeport was second with 124.25 points and Mountain Ridge was third with 72 points.

Olivia Shipley had the highest individual finish for the Lady Bucs taking runner-up honors in the shot put with a heave of 30-03.5.

Quinlyn Russell took sixth in the shot put with a heave of 27-07.

Freshman Alivia Cogar finished with a sixth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18,19. She also took eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 55.30.

Mallory Hughes scored in the high jump, placing eighth with a jump of 4-06.

The Lady Bucs picked up 12 points with their relay teams.

The 4×400-meter relay team of Cogar, Hughes, Rylen Carlyle and Brianna Howes placed sixth (4:59.87), the 4×102.5-meter shuttle hurdle team of Haley White, Kyleigh Keener, Nicole Blandino and Abby Hurst placed seventh (1:25.75), the 4×800-meter relay team of Olivia Blonn, Kaydence Monti, Victoria Kurzrock and Chloe Blonn finished eighth (11:48.24), the 4×200-meter relay unit of Monti, Carlyle, Cogar and Howes placed eighth (1:58.83) and the 4×100-meter relay of Monti, Chloe Blonn, Blandino and Keener took ninth (59.38).

The Lady Bucs were slated to host their mid-week meet on Tuesday. They will run again Thursday at Tyler Consolidated.
