JV Bucs go cold in third quarter and fall in opener to Fairmont Senior, 69-41

TENNERTON – A poor third quarter doomed the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers in their 2023 debut in a home contest with the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears Wednesday evening.

The Bucs trailed by just a 32-29 score at the half but were outscored by a 23-4 margin in the third quarter and went on to drop a 69-41 decision.

The Bucs trailed by just one, at 17-16, after the first quarter with Brody McDaniels putting in seven points, Kadyn Baisden three, and Seth Allen, Damion White and Jacob Frye two each.

B-U was outscored in the second quarter by a 15-13 margin with White and Frye each putting in four points with McDaniels contributing three and Allen two. That left the Bucs down by three at the half at 32-29.

Buckhannon-Upshur went ice cold in third quarter with just four points getting baskets from White and Kaiden Marks which left them down by a 55-33 score heading into the final eight minutes.

B-U dropped the final quarter by a 14-8 count with White and Fyre each dropping in four points.

McDaniels and White led the Buckhannon-Upshur offense with 12 points apiece.

Cam Ferguson led the Polar Bears with 14 points.

The Bucs will be back in action Friday hosting Preston at 5:45 p.m.
