B-UHS theater department to debut Music Man on May 5

Buckhannon-Upshur High School’s theater department is set to debut their spring musical production of “Music Man” on May 5-6 at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 2 p.m.

These young actors have been working tirelessly to provide the best possible show for all those who attend. Senior Elijah Carr is the lead (Harold Hill) in the show and is accompanied by senior Julianna Stark who is playing Marian Paroo. More than 20 other B-UHS students and multiple middle and elementary-level students also take the stage to help bring the story of the Music Man to life.

The show tells the story of a young con man, Harold Hill, who has recently moved to Iowa in the early 1910s to allegedly start a boy’s marching band. However, his plot starts to collapse once meeting and being smitten with Marian Paroo, the librarian and piano teacher. His budding affections make it much harder to leave town and cause him to risk exposing himself for the sake of love.

With a full team of some of the best actors, musicians, directors, and choreographers Buckhannon has to offer, this show is bound to be a joy for all who attend. With Jerimiah Smallridge and Taylor High (co-directors), Jakob Spruce (intimacy director/costume designer), and Evaleen Atha (choreographer), Eliza Taylor-Blake (pit band conductor) fully backing these actors, they were able to reach amazing heights.

“We are so excited for this production,” Smallridge said. “This was the show we were hoping to perform the year everything was shut down for Covid. This year’s seniors were freshmen that year. Several of the students were parts of both productions.”

High added, “I am just so excited to be a part of this program for the first time. I have had a great time working with the production crew and the students to put together this show.”

Come see the hard work this group of students has put in on May 5-7 in the B-UHS Auditorium!
