MORGANTOWN – It just wasn’t their night for the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc softball team in their road encounter with the No. 9 University Hawks in a non-conference battle Tuesday evening.
The Lady Bucs mustered just three hits in a 9-0 five-inning setback.
A two-run double from Lauren Heusbesch and a one-run single from Sophia Lehosit gave University a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
The game remained at 3-0 until University scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth with the big hit coming from Maddie Campbell who hit a three-run home run.
Buckhannon-Upshur’s three hits, all singles, belonged to Alyssa Abel, Jansen Kimble and Reese Curry.
Kimble suffered the loss in the circle as she went all four innings and allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits while striking out three.
Campbell led the University off with three hits while knocking in three runs on her home run.
Campbell also picked up the win going all five innings while striking out 11 in the shutout win.
University improved to 20-4.
The Lady Bucs dropped to 9-8 on the season.
They will be back in action Thursday hosting University in a rematch at 5:30 p.m.
