Wesleyan lacrosse downs Randolph, 15-7

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-3) lacrosse team won a non-conference matchup over Randolph (2-3) on Saturday afternoon at WildCat Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.
 
WVWC Leaders
Emma Adcock continued her strong offensive performances and led the Lady ‘Cats with five goals and two assists. Isabella Verona and Kaitlynn Canby both scored three goals. Adely Trujillo-Gonzalez ripped two scores. Makenzi Lewellyn and Gabrielle Holstein rounded out the scoring for WVWC. Canby, Verona and Yuka Mizuide each caused two turnovers. Madysan Chisholm picked up three ground balls on the defensive half of the field. Maggie Wroe saw 22 shots and stopped 15.
 
Randolph Leaders
Sophia Cirone and Olivia Richards were the only Wildcats to score goals. Goaltender Taylor Batty made 10 saves and scooped up four ground balls. Cirone caused three turnovers.
 
Inside the First Half
The Lady Bobcats scored the first three goals of the game. Trujillo-Gonzalez got Wesleyan on the board at the 11:29 mark in the first quarter. Wesleyan struck again eight seconds later when Kaitlynn Canby slipped a shot past the Randolph goalkeeper to put WVWC ahead by two. Adcock collected her first goal of the game with 7:59 left in the first quarter. Cirone got the Wildcats on the board with 3:01 in the first frame. Canby found the back of the net for the second time in the first quarter to give WVWC a 4-1 lead at the end of one.
 
Adcock and Canby each scored a goal within 17 seconds apart to build a 6-1 Lady Bobcat lead. Cirone scored her second goal to cut the Randolph deficit to four. Lewellyn ripped a shot into the net with nine minutes remaining in the half to put the ‘Cats up five. Adcock recorded a hat trick with 5:47 to go that gave the Lady Bobcats an 8-2 cushion. The Wildcats managed to cut the deficit in half and trailed 8-4 at the intermission.
 
Inside the Second Half
The Lady Bobcats started the scoring in the second half when Adcock found Verona to put the WVWC back to five. Lewellyn dished a pass to Verona that put Wesleyan ahead by six. Following a Randolph goal, Adcock scored for the fourth time to put the Lady ‘Cats lead back to six with 9:24 left in the third quarter. Cirone scored her third goal of the afternoon that put Randolph within five points heading into the final quarter.
 
Adcock distributed her second assist of the game when she found Holstein for a goal at the 14:26 mark. Adcock posted her fifth goal with 10:19 to go that gave WVWC a seven-goal lead. Trujillo-Gonzalez and Verona scored within the last five minutes to complete their multi-goal games. WVWC solidified an eight-goal victory over Randolph.
