Soccer Lady Bucs have rough outing with Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT – It was a rough evening for the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs in a 5-0 setback to the Bridgeport Indians in a Big 10 Conference game Tuesday evening at the high school.

Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jackie Zuliani thought her team played better than the final score indicated.

“We had several shots just barely out of frame,” she noted. “We had our opportunities, we just couldn’t make it happen.”

Allison Callahan staked Bridgeport to a 2-0 lead with goals in the eighth and 25th minute.

Ally Bender and Brianna Smell contributed goals to Bridgeport later in the half to give the Indians a 4-0 lead at the break.

Bridgeport’s Emily Dodd found the back of the net right before the end of the game to wrap up the scoring.

Bridgeport owned an 8-2 lead in shots-on-goal but the Lady Bucs held a 5-4 margin in corner kicks.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 10-5-1 overall and 8-2 in the Big 10.

They will return to action Thursday visiting Lewis County in a Big 10 outing at 5:30 p.m.
