Gillum places fourth at Fairmont Senior Invitational for cross country Bucs

FAIRMONT – Jordan Gillum ran fourth for the Buckhannon-Upshur cross country Buccaneers on Saturday in the Fairmont Senior Invitational.

Gillum ran a season-best time of 17:33.87.

Aiden Kneeland of Woodrow Wilson won the invitational with a time of 16:42.80 while Elkins’ Charlie Smoak was second with a time of 17:09.26 and East Fairmont’s Drew Moore was third with a time of 17:24.03.

The Bucs finished fifth as a team with 109 points.

East Fairmont won the team title with 53 points while Woodrow Wilson was second with 58 points.

Scoring for the Bucs along with Gillum were Jack Waggy running 21st with a time of 19:04.36, Reis Leonard placing 29th with a time of 19:20.20, Brycen Allen taking 31st with a time of 19:41.35 and Logan Wyatt running 33rd with a time of 19:51.30.

The rest of the B-U line-up included Nicholas Winters in 75th (23:05.34), Rhett Ammons in 80th (23:43.20), Ryan Dowell in 85th (24:05.99), Lucas Bennett in 87th (24:24.30), Joseph Shipman in 88th (24:25.48), Brandon Landis in 90th (24:51.84) and Ryan Tenney in 94th (27:12.76).

“The boys ran an overall good race,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Taylor Stacy. “It wasn’t out best effort as a team but we had a lot of individual efforts to be happy about. Jordan ran a season-best and placed fourth wile Brycen and Logan both had personal bests as well.”

The Bucs will be idle until next Thursday when they compete in the Big 10 Championships hosted by Philip Barbour High School.

“It will be nice to take the next week off from racing to rest up before the conference meet,” concluded Stacy.”
