21 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Thursday

A total of 21 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths were announced by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources on Thursday.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on May 7, 2020, there have been 57,995 laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 1,297 positive, 56,698 negative and 51 deaths,” according to a press release.

The cumulative positive rate dropped slightly to 2.2 percent. The daily rate of positive cases reported Thursday was 1.1 percent.

About 38 percent of the West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 738 people have recovered and 51 have died, a mortality rate of about 6.5 percent.

New cases were reported Thursday in Berkeley, Cabell, Gilmer, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Mason, Morgan, Ohio, Roane, Wayne and Wetzel counties.
