191 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Friday as death toll tops 200

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 191 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Three additional deaths has been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 93-year old female from Logan County, an 82-year old female from Logan County, and a 77-year old male from Cabell County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 28, 2020, there have been 419,401 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 9,824 total cases and 202 deaths,” according to a press release.

Four counties are now orange on the state’s ‘tweaked’ school map: Kanawha, Logan, Mingo and Monroe.

New cases were reported Friday in Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Brant, Greenbrier, Hardy, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Ritchie, Roane, Summers, Taylor, Wayne, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,763 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active,7,859 people have recovered and 202 have died. The daily percent positive was 3.14%.
