Wesleyan volleyball team drops straight sets to Yellow Jackets

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats were riding a two game conference winning streak and looked to take that momentum into Friday’s match against West Virginia State University. It was Breast Cancer Awareness night as members of the Bobcat family who have been affected by the disease were recognized and given a moment of silence.

The Yellow Jackets took the match in three straight sets as strong serving and defense at the net deemed to be the key for State as they downed Wesleyan, 25-23, 25-18, and 25-23.

Notable performances for the Lady Bobcats included Olivia Albrecht with 10 kills followed by Jayla Cowherd and Emily Denison with five kills each. Emily Dension also recorded three blocks and Cowherd had one block assist. Alexis Moeschler led the team with 14 digs, continuing many long rallies for the Lady Bobcats. Setter Jalynn West recorded 26 assists as well as one serving ace.

The Lady Bobcats are set to take on the Senators of Davis and Elkins College on the road Tuesday, Oct.15 at 7 p.m.
