Upshur County Commissioners congratulate 2019 County Government Essay Contest winner, Alayna Whitehair

BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Commission on Thursday morning offered its congratulations to the 2019 County Government Essay Contest Winner, eighth-grader Alayna Whitehair, and honorable mention, eighth-grader Regan McCauley.

English teacher for Regan McCauley, Lisa Crites; English teacher for Alayna Whitehair, Tiffany Board; and Jennifer Piercy, communications director for the County Commissioners Association of West Virginia joined the commissioners to honor the two Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School students.

Melvin Robert Perry Sr., 88, a Buckhannon native, Army veteran and production manager, died January 4, 2026, and is survived by children, grandchildren, siblings and other relatives, with services at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.
