Region I girls’ basketball tournament set; Lady Bucs to visit UHS Wednesday

TENNERTON— The Region I high school girls’ basketball tournament pairings and dates have been set.

The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs will be the fourth seed in the Region I Section 2 Tournament and will enter it with a 4-16 record.

University (12-10) earned the top seed with a perfect 3-0 mark against sectional opponents and will entertain the Lady Bucs Wednesday at 7 p.m. B-U finished with a 1-2 sectional record along with Bridgeport and Preston but finished as the fourth seed.

The Lady Bucs lost their regular-season battle with University in a road contest back on Jan. 23 by a 71-38 score.

Preston (10-12) earned the second seed and will host third seed Bridgeport (6-16) Wednesday night.

The two first-round winners will meet Friday at the highest seed.

In Section I, Wheeling Park (18-4) is the top seed and will host No. 4 Brooke (1-19) while No. 2 seed Morgantown (14-7) will host No. 3 seed John Marshall (13-9).

Both of those games will be played on Tuesday while the two winners will meet on Friday.

The sectional champion and the runner-up will both advance to regional play. Regional winners will advance to the WVSSAC High School Basketball Championships.
