Crystal Chidester of Buckhannon received the first LiveWell makeup kit from the Cancer Care Center, a part of Davis Medical Center.

The first LiveWell makeup kit was presented this month at the Cancer Care Center, a part of Davis Medical Center. LiveWell is a program of the Davis Health Foundation for men and women undergoing cancer treatment.

The center’s first recipient is Crystal Chidester, a 41-year-old stage II breast cancer patient from Buckhannon.

When asked about her treatment, Chidester stated “Looking in the mirror without hair can be devastating. I always put on makeup, even if it’s just a little eyeliner and bronzer, because it boosts my spirits.”

She added, “Skin care is really important, especially during cancer treatment.”

The kit contains makeup and skin care products for sensitive skin. Staff at the center have compiled information into a booklet and brochure, which reviews skin and nail care techniques during chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

Chidester said, “The staff is excellent; they helped me through a lot of anxiety and emotions. Having a positive outlook is the most important thing you can do during treatment. Just because we are sick doesn’t mean we can’t be beautiful.”

The program is designed to help patient’s look and feel their best during treatment – and beyond.
