Local student graduates from WVU with Summa Cum Lauda honors

Branden Newcome, 2015 Buckhannon-Upshur High School alumni, graduated from West Virginia University-Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources on Saturday, May 11, 2019 with Summa Cum Lauda honors.

Branden graduated with an overall GPA of 3.9 and graduated from WVU’s Honors College on May 9, 2019. Newcome was also invited to participate in the Order of the Engineer Ceremony on May 8, where only the top achieving graduating engineers are honored to pledge the Engineering Oath.

Branden served as VP for WVU ASHARE Chapter (American Society of Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Engineering) and was a member of WVU SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers).

He was also a member of the WVU Bass Fishing Team, serving a two-year term as president. He wrapped up his final tournament in Waddington, N.Y. mid-June.

Newcome is employed with Stephanie & Associates of Pittsburgh, Pa. as a mechanical engineer and will be managing operations in Morgantown, W.Va.
