Local racer Ryder Tenney to compete as ‘Hometown Hero’ in GNCC Buckwheat 100

Ryder Tenney

Buckhannon’s Ryder Tenney will participate in the 10th round of the 2024 Grand National Cross Country Series presented by Specialized, an AMA National Championship. The event, the Buckwheat 100, will take place on August 31 in Newburg, W.Va.

Ryder has been selected as the “Hometown Hero” for the Buckwheat 100. This program allows local GNCC racers to promote and grow the sport they love. The 10-year-old ATV racer will be competing at 8 and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, alongside fellow micro and youth riders.

Ryder, a 5th-grade student at Hodgesville Elementary School, has been riding since he was 6 years old. With the support of his sponsors and family, Ryder competes nearly every weekend in the Mountain State Hare Scramble, NECXC, and GNCC.

GNCC Racing has made significant strides in exposure, particularly with the television package that began in 2001 and has evolved into Racer TV on NBC Sports Network, along with #GNCCLIVE coverage at RacerTV.com. Following every lap of the pro races live every weekend via the internet was once a pipe dream but is now a reality, benefiting the series greatly.

This progress is credited to Dave Coombs, who envisioned GNCC Racing thirty-eight years ago. Despite the growth, the series maintains a camaraderie and family atmosphere at events. Win or lose, whether pro or amateur, GNCC Racing is about challenging oneself against the terrain, reflecting Big Dave’s original vision that endures today.

For more information on the GNCC series, visit the official website at www.gnccracing.com or call (304) 284-0084.
