Lady ‘Cats draw West Liberty in first-round of MEC Basketball Tournament

BRIDGEPORT — The seeds and pairings for the 2024 Mountain East Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, presented by The Health Plan, have been finalized.

The top 10 teams qualify for the tournament at WesBanco Arena, with the top six seeds earning byes.

Fairmont State (16-4) wrapped up the 2024 MEC Regular Season Championship with Saturday’s win over Frostburg State. The Falcons won their first-ever Mountain East Conference regular season title in 2023-24.

West Virginia State (14-6) earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament following its win Saturday afternoon, holding the tiebreaker over third-seeded Frostburg State (14-6). Charleston finished with a 13-7 mark in conference play to earn the No. 4 seed, while Wheeling (12-8) is seeded fifth and Concord (11-9) sixth after earning the tiebreaker over Glenville State.

Glenville State (11-9) is the seventh-seed in the tournament. West Liberty (6-14) is seeded eighth, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan (6-14) at No. 9, and Notre Dame (6-14) is the 10th seed following a three-team tiebreaker.

Glenville State will open tournament play against Notre Dame on Wednesday at noon. Eighth-seeded West Liberty will face West Virginia Wesleyan at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Thursday’s quarterfinal schedule is listed below.
