Lady Bucs crush Preston in home opener

The Buckhannon-Upshur High School Lady Buccaneers opened their home basketball season in style, with a 56-30 victory over the visiting Preston County Lady Knights.

B-U rebounded nicely from a buzzer-beater loss to Frankfort over the weekend, quickly opening a large lead and maintaining a double-digit lead throughout Monday’s game.

Preston would cut the lead to 10 points early in the third quarter, but first-year head coach Rob Kittle called a timeout to regroup, and the Lady Bucs never looked back from there.

Senior Audrey Gaudet led the way for B-U, scoring 10 points, while Alli Robinson finished with nine points and 12 rebounds and Leigh Ann Bennett added nine points, five assists and four steals. The Lady Bucs shot the ball well from the floor but converted under half their free throws.

The Lady Bucs are now 1-1 on the season, while Preston falls to 0-1. B-U will host Lincoln on Thursday, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
