Ladora Cutright, a Buckhannon-Upshur High School band leader, has been named one of 15 finalists for the West Virginia Scholar competition, with online voting open through June 18.
Ladora Cutright

An upcoming senior at Buckhannon-Upshur High School is in the running for a full-ride scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan College, and she needs the community’s help.

Ladora Cutright, who serves as the woodwind captain and flute section leader in the school band, is one of 15 finalists in the West Virginia Scholar competition, which is accepting online votes through Wednesday, June 18.

“Throughout my high school journey thus far, I have participated in many extracurricular activities, a few of which being our local community theater, our high school’s concert choir, and our marching and concert bands, where I served on the band council as our Woodwind Captain and Flute Section Leader,” Cutright wrote. “During my time in such roles, I found a passion for inspiring and educating others as many have done for me, and after graduation, I plan on pursuing a degree in education to do just that.”

As a Buckhannon native, Cutright talks about how Wesleyan has impacted her life.

“West Virginia Wesleyan College is a staple of my gorgeous hometown of Buckhannon, and throughout my life, I have attended choir concerts in the chapel, swimming lessons as a child, campus tours, and other school-related activities there,” she wrote. “Out of all the institutes in our state, WVWC is one I feel led by God to attend, and feel I have the opportunity to best continue my journey with him as I grow. It would be a great honor to attend the prestigious school I grew up around to pursue a degree in education so that I can one day inspire young minds and give back to the community that I hold so dear to my heart.”

Online voting runs through 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, and winners will be announced June 26.
