Get fired up: The 88’s BBQ Hullabaloo is back for the third consecutive year

BUCKHANNON – A sizzling summer tradition will soon return to the 88 Restaurant & Lounge.

The 88’s BBQ Hullabaloo will take place July 27 from 3 p.m. to midnight at the 88’s outside pavilion. Bartender for the 88 Restaurant & Lounge Lindsey Putzulu said it’s going to be an event for the whole community to enjoy.

“It’s a good time for everybody, and everyone comes out to enjoy four live bands, Bud Light draft and great barbecue,” Putzulu said. “Your ticket gets you food, drinks and entertainment. It’s a great time for everyone.”

Tickets for the event are $35 when purchased in advance; however, when purchased on the day of the event, they are $40 and tickets for people 21 and younger are $25. The ticket provides food and Bud Light drafts, but the pavilion will also serve soda, mixed drinks and bottled adult beverages.

Manager of the 88 Restaurant & Lounge Sandy Beam said the menu will consist of pulled pork barbecue, barbecue chicken, baked beans, mac and cheese, ranch potato salad, coleslaw, dinner rolls and three housemade barbecue sauces in spicy, Jack Daniels and regular house barbecue sauce flavors.

“This is the third year, and we’re going to try to do it every year,” Beam said. “It’s something we want to build and grow, and we started out small. We want to grow and add more every year to where maybe we have six bands. It’s just a lot of fun to get people from the community to come in and have some great food and listen to some great music.”

The four live bands that will appear during the event are all local and will be Josh Folmsbee and The Crooked Roots from 3 to 5 p.m., the Eddie Davisson Band from 5 to 7 p.m., the Rox Band from 7 to 9 p.m. and Intent from 9 p.m. to midnight.

“It’s nice to have local bands; it helps everyone in the community by coming out to hear them and trying our food,” Beam said. “We had a lot of people last year that had never been here so events like these help build clientele and bring local people together, and we just have some fun.”

Other entertainment will include several yard games like a cornhole tournament, yard golf and a beer pong tournament.

Beam said the Hullabaloo is meant for those 18 and over. People who are looking to pre-purchase tickets can go to 88restaurant.com.
