DHHR reports six new COVID-19 cases in Upshur County on Friday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reported six new cases of COVID-19 in Upshur County on Friday, moving the county closer to the orange warning zone.

Upshur County now has 57 total cases, 15 of which are active, according to the DHHR. If the county reports four new cases before 5 p.m. Saturday, Upshur would move to orange for the coming week, meaning sports competitions would be canceled.

No additional information was released about the new cases, including whether they are related to the outbreak at the Upshur County Courthouse.

Overall, the DHHR announced Friday that 157 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Six additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 86-year old female from Logan County, a 90-year old male from Kanawha County, a 93-year old male from Raleigh County, a 77-year old male from Putnam County, a 59-year old male from Fayette County, and a 79-year old male from Kanawha County.
