BCT to light up the stage with Mamma Mia starting this weekend

Buckhannon Community Theatre will present the musical Mamma Mia! at the Colonial Arts Center starting July 12, featuring ABBA hits, lively performances, and a cast assembled from across the region.

The Colonial Arts Center will come alive with music, laughter, and plenty of sequins as Buckhannon Community Theatre presents the musical Mamma Mia! starting Saturday, July 12.

Featuring iconic hits from ABBA, vibrant costumes, and a sun-soaked island setting, the production offers a fun-filled escape for audiences of all ages. The musical tells the story of Sophie, a bride-to-be who secretly invites three men from her mother’s past to her wedding, hoping to discover which one is her father. The result is a heartfelt and often hilarious story about love, identity, and connection.

Katie Loudin, who stars as Donna, said the rehearsal process has been an energetic and rewarding experience.

“We’ve got cast members coming from all over the region, including Clarksburg and Bridgeport,” Loudin said. “That kind of commitment shows how special this production is to everyone involved.”

Loudin acknowledged the challenge of stepping into such a well-known role but said the supportive cast and upbeat music have made the process exciting.

“I’m doing my best to bring something heartfelt to the stage,” she said. “The entire cast has had a blast preparing, and we can’t wait to share it with the community.”

This summer’s production has been a long time coming for BCT, which has been hoping to stage Mamma Mia! for several years. Now that it’s finally happening, the cast and crew are ready to deliver a show full of high energy and big emotions.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 13.

The show continues with additional performances at 7 p.m. on July 17, 18, and 19, and a final matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 20.

Tickets can be purchased at the Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, Salon 88, or online at https://our.show/bctmammamia.

Loudin says the full experience will be very impressive.

“You’ll have to come to the show to see the choreography and costumes. It’s all coming together in a really fun way.”
