TENNERTON – Junior Zach Calef-Boring garnered 2022 Big 10 All-Conference baseball honors for the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers.

Calef-Boring, who earned Second Team honors, was the lone Buccaneer to be named to the All-Conference Team. Calef-Boring earned his honors as an outfielder.

Calef-Boring led the Buccaneer team in hitting with a .416 average collecting 42 hits in 101 at bats. He had 10 doubles and four triples while stealing 22 bases.

He scored 33 runs and knocked in 15 while striking out just two times in 111 plate appearances. On the mound, he pitched 22 innings with nine appearances posting two wins.

“Zach is a very consistent hitter,” stated Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Adam Squires. “He hit over .400 for us, but I know he wanted his average to be even higher, but Zach was the player that made us go. If he got on base, we knew we were going to be in good shape.”

Bridgeport, which advanced to the Class AAA state tournament, landed six players on the First Team. Fairmont Senior, which made the state tournament in Class AA, had three players on the First Team. Cole Malnick of North Marion was named the Player of the Year while Ben McDougal of Bridgeport was tabbed as Pitcher of the Year.

Robert Shields of Bridgeport was selected as Big 10 Conference Head Coach of the Year.
