B-UHS Fine Arts Students of the Week: Jessica Williams and Summer Warner

Each week Buckhannon-Upshur High School features two Fine Arts Students of the Week to highlight the work students are doing in the art world.

Performing Arts Student of the Week: Jessica Williams

Jessica Williams is a senior student at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

She is a member of the Cross Country, Track, Archery, and Air Rifle teams. She is also a member of the band, FBLA, Red Cross, 4H, and Teen Leaders. Some of her favorite pieces to play over the years include “Burlesque,” “Estancia,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” and “Dance Again.”

When asked why the arts are important to her, Jessica said, “Not only can you learn life lessons, you can have a great time with people who are interested in the same things you are. It is a lot of fun and you can learn a lot and make lifelong friends.”

Jessica plans to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College to pursue a degree in Computer Science.

Visual Arts Student of the Week: Summer Warner

Summer Warner is a senior student at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

She is a member of the National Art Honor Society, Heaston United Methodist Youth Group, and Elite Rivals Baton Group. Summer was awarded artist of the year in 5th grade and 8th grade. Some of her favorite mediums to work in include glass and pencil. Her favorite projects over the years include drawing cartoon characters and making things out of glass.

When asked why the arts are important to her, Summer said, “It is a way to express myself and make things completely unique to me.”

After high school, Summer plans to further her education to become a radiation tech with a goal to eventually work in nuclear medicine to administer chemotherapy.
