BUCKHANNON — Shelia Lewis-Sines was sworn in as the newest member of the Buckhannon City Council today at 10:00 a.m., in Council Chambers.

Mayor Skinner and City Recorder Randy Sanders both welcomed the Council Member appointee, along with her husband Ray Sines and several of her friends and supporters who were on hand to witness the ceremony. In his opening remarks, Mayor Skinner wished Mrs. Sines the very best as she assumed the role after being selected to fill a City Council vacancy at the regular Buckhannon City Council meeting this past Thursday, August 19th.

Mayor Skinner asked Shelia Lewis-Sines to join him in front of the Seal of the City of Buckhannon, to raise her right hand, and to repeat after him the following Oath of Office: “I, Shelia Lewis-Sines do solemnly affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of West Virginia, the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Buckhannon, West Virginia, and faithfully discharge my duties as Council Member of the said City to the best of my ability, so help me God.”

When asked what drove her to become a public servant she referenced her late father who was one of her biggest supporters for entering into the public arena. The love for her father is why she keeps her maiden name (Lewis) as a part of her identity.

On her first day on the job, Council Member Lewis-Sines met with Buckhannon Police Chief Matthew Gregory to welcome the department’s two newly certified officers to the force, Patrolman James Fisher and Patrolman Jacob Garrison, and then the Chief provided her a tour of the Buckhannon Police Department.

About Shelia Lewis-Sines: Shelia Lewis-Sines is a native of Buckhannon and is married to Ray Sines who served in the Army and served and retired from the National Guard. While Shelia has traveled quite a bit, and at times thought that she could be happy living elsewhere, she was always felt “pulled” to return to her hometown of Buckhannon.

She worked for Energy Federal Credit Union in Rockville. Maryland and then for several years at McJunkin Appalachian of Buckhannon, before becoming an executive assistant for Mid Atlantic Well Service in Jane Lew. Currently Shelia enjoys being a wife, homemaker, and grandmother of two awesome boys and one beautiful little girl. She also loves gardening, interior and exterior decorating, and design, as well as entertaining.

Shelia is honored to have been selected to serve the citizens of Buckhannon as a member of city council and is looking forward to putting in the work necessary to achieve success for our community.
