GLENVILLE – West Virginia Wesleyan’s women’s basketball team put together one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season but could not overcome Glenville State’s depth and second-chance scoring in a 95–84 setback Saturday afternoon at the Waco Center. The Lady Bobcats shot an impressive 61.8 percent from the floor and 53.8 percent from three-point range, yet the Pioneers used a decisive edge in points off turnovers and bench production to pull away late
Wesleyan opened the game on a strong note, shooting over 60 percent in each of the first three quarters and holding a slim 22–24 deficit after one. The Bobcats briefly regained the lead early in the second quarter and stayed within striking distance at halftime, trailing 51–40 after Glenville closed the half on a run. The Lady Bobcats responded with a strong third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 23–19 to cut the margin to six entering the final period.
Despite continued efficiency on offense, Glenville State asserted control in the fourth quarter behind relentless pressure and interior scoring. The Pioneers finished with 34 points off turnovers and a 35–6 advantage in bench points. Glenville also held a 19–6 edge in second-chance points and scored 62 points in the paint.
Emma Witt led all Bobcats with a dominant all-around performance, pouring in 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting while adding seven rebounds and six assists in 39 minutes. Kilah Dandridge was nearly perfect offensively, scoring 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting and knocking down both of her three-point attempts. Allie Daniels added 16 points in just 16 minutes of action, while Ana Young chipped in 12 points and five assists. Sydney Baird rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points, including three three-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds.
Glenville State was led by Ashlyn Riley, who scored 25 points, while Carine Pinkney added 18. The Pioneers placed six players in double figures and shot 51.9 percent from the floor.
The Lady Bobcats head to the University of Charleston on Wednesday, Jan. 14 for a 5:30 tip with the Golden Eagles.
