The Upshur Parish House is asking for community help as it anticipates increased demand for its food pantry services, citing a potential federal pause to SNAP benefits.
Community members can support the effort in several ways:
- Donate nonperishable food and hygiene items. Most-needed items include canned vegetables, beans, fruit and soup; rice, pasta, cereal and boxed macaroni and cheese; peanut butter and jelly; deodorant, feminine hygiene supplies, toilet paper and toothpaste; and plastic grocery bags.
- Provide monetary gifts — every $35 donated feeds a family of two. Donations may be dropped off or mailed to 68 College Ave, Buckhannon, WV 26201, or made online at givebutter.com/UpshurParishHouse.
- Purchase items from the organization’s wish lists at Amazon or Walmart.
- Volunteer at the Parish House.
Those seeking food assistance may visit the Parish House Monday–Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Buckhannon and Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m. in Rock Cave.
“Every donation — big or small — helps us keep food on the table for local families,” the Parish House said. “If you or someone you know are in need of food assistance, please stop by the Parish House. We are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Buckhannon and Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m. in Rock Cave.”
