Moose International chairman visits Buckhannon lodge for dinner and grant ceremony

Buckhannon Moose Lodge 598 recently welcomed Chairman of the Moose International Board of Directors, Robert “Bob” K. Funkey, for a special dinner Friday, April 4, at its newly renovated location on Route 20 South Road.

Mr. Funkey was nominated and elected to his position at the 136th International Moose Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. Prior to attaining this post, he served as vice chairman of the Moose International’s Board of Directors (2023-2024), director/chaplain (2022-2023), and as a director on the Moose International, Inc. Board of Directors. Mr. Funkey has also been a member of the Moosehaven Board of Directors (2024-2019) and served on the Loss Prevention Committee (2012-2014) and on Moose International’s Government Relations Committee (2010-2012).

He joined the fraternal order as a member of the St. Clair Shoes, Michigan, Lodge 1837 in April 1995, and also holds membership in Grayling, Michigan Lodge 1162; Painesville, Ohio Lodge 490; North Pole, Alaska Lodge 306; Antler, Virginia Lodge 2726; and Dickinson, North Dakota Lodge 2728. Mr. Funkey served as the St. Clair Shores Lodge’s treasurer, junior governor, governor, and junior past governor. He has also chaired the Audit, Life Care, Special Projects, Gimme Five and Call to Action committees. He has additionally served as a Lodge Ritualist and Administrator of Grayling Lodge 1162.

Mr. Funkey is a member of the 75 Division of the Moose 25 Club. He received the Fellowship Degree of Honor in 2004 and the Pilgrim Degree of Honor in 2004 and the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 2011. He is also a 14-time League of Guardian recipient. Outside of the Moose, he belongs to the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Funkey attended the University of Michigan and is retired from bank branch management after 32 years.

He and his wife, Cathy, reside in Roscommon, Michigan. They have four children, 16 grandchildren and a new great-granddaughter.

Mr. Funkey was pleased to be on hand for a special dinner and grant award ceremony at the Buckhannon Moose Lodge 598 on Friday, April 4. At the dinner, the Buckhannon Moose Lodge presented Upshur County Youth Baseball and Softball Leagues with a $500 check that will be used for league sponsorship.
