WVJC School of Nursing holds orientations for first online/hybrid practical nursing cohorts

The WVJC School of Nursing has completed its orientations for the inaugural class of students in the recently developed Online/Hybrid Practical Nursing program. The development and implementation of this program mark a significant milestone for the institution, showcasing WVJC’s commitment to providing innovative, practical nursing training to students in Charleston, Bridgeport, and Martinsburg, West Virginia.

The three WVJC School of Nursing locations offering the online/hybrid practical nursing training program held orientations throughout December. The Charleston campus was completed on December 10, 2024, the Bridgeport campus on December 16, 2024, and the Martinsburg location on December 17, 2024. The program is set to start on January 6, 2025, and a cohort of nearly 60 students across all three locations will begin on the path to becoming practical nurses.

“We are excited to offer students the opportunity to attend the Practical Nursing program in a hybrid modality,” said WVJC Bridgeport Director of Nursing, Amanda Poling. “This online learning environment allows students to chase dreams that might not have been a reality in a traditional classroom setting.”

The orientation signifies the start of a student’s practical nursing education. It equips them with the resources and support needed to begin the program. Students are also introduced to the online platform used throughout the program, offered a facility tour, meet with faculty and instructors and complete required health screenings.

“We are thrilled to launch our new hybrid Practical Nursing program, blending the best of in-person and online learning to prepare students for success in the healthcare field,” said WVJC Charleston Director of Nursing, Kelly Pauley. “With the Charleston orientation held on December 10,we are excited to welcome the dedicated students to this innovative program, which reflects our commitment to meeting the growing demand for skilled nursing professionals.”

The Online/Hybrid Practical Nursing program combines virtual learning with hands-on training at regional healthcare facilities and WVJC campuses. Students also benefit from seamlessly integrating into the culture of the medical facility, where they complete clinical rotations, which can provide potential employment opportunities upon graduation and passing the NCLEX-PN* exam.

Students interested in attending the next cohort of the online/hybrid Practical Nursing program are encouraged to visit wvjc.edu for more information about the program and future start dates.

*Passing the NCLEX-PN licensure examination is required to become a Practical Nurse.
