Soccer Lady Bucs take winning streak to five with 5-1 road win over Grafton

GRAFTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs ran their winning streak to five games with a convincing 5-1 road win over the Grafton Bearcats in Big 10 Conference action Thursday night.

Five different Lady Bucs got into the scoring act in the win in a game that was delayed by over 30 minutes due to the weather.

“This game was an all-around great performance by the team,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente. “They have translated what we have done in practice to games really well and the team should be very proud of that.”

The game was scoreless until the 17th minute when Mallory Hughes scored with an assist going to Harley Dean giving the Lady Bucs a 1-0 lead.

Rylen Carlyle dribbled past two defenders and tallied an unassisted goal in the 30th minute to up the B-U lead to 2-0.

Dean found the back of the net in the 37th minute with the assist going to Carlyle giving the Lady Bucs a 3-0 advantage.

Grafton scored the first goal of the second half in the 46th minute when Mackenzie Hunter scored with the assist going to Claire McCarthy.

The game stayed at 3-1 for the next 27 minutes until the Lady Bucs scored twice in the final seven minutes of the contest.

Isabella Rexroad scored in the 73rd minute with the assist going to Hannah Boyles and Allison Andrew scored an unassisted goal in the 76th minute.

The Lady Bucs owned a 15-3 lead in shots-on-goal and a 1-0 advantage in corner kicks.

B-U was guilty of 10 fouls while Grafton was called for five.

Buckhannon-Upshur keeper Kyndal Davis made two saves while Regan Knight stopped 10 shots for Grafton.

Grafton dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the Big 10 Conference.

The Lady Bucs improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the Big 10 Conference.

The Lady Bucs will host George Washington Saturday in a non-conference tilt at 9 a.m.
