Soccer Bobcats earn 2-0 road win over Battlers

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (5-3-3, 3-3-3) men’s soccer team earned three points against Alderson Broaddus (2-8-2, 2-7-1) with a 2-0 win after a strong second half performance.

In the first half, the Battlers started with much more intensity trying to shut down the speed of play of the Bobcats. That was not enough as the Bobcats eventually found themselves into the match and were able to register shots on target. The half ended 0-0.

In the second half, the Bobcats came out with much more intensity and a better mentality. WVWC were able to put the pressure on the Battlers in which they outshot the Battlers 15-2 in the half. In the 75th minute, a ball in behind from Luis Diaz found Nugo Barkaia in which he was able to zip the ball into the area and a well-placed finish from the Turkish Native, Sinasi Emre Deniz, put the Bobcats up 1-0. Just two minutes later, Barkaia once again played a great ball into the feet of Sam Newell and was able to place it past the keeper. The Bobcat defense, Hayden Dodd, Jamie Razo, and Diaz, limited the Battlers to only two shots in the half.

The WVWC Bobcats are back on the road on Sunday (Oct. 9) for a match versus Concord. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
