WVWC swimmers off to good start at MEC/GMAC Championships

CANTON, Ohio – The West Virginia Wesleyan men’s and women’s swimming teams started competition on day one and two of the Great Midwest Conference & Mountain East Conference Championships on Wednesday and Thursday  at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.

Day One
 
The WVWC women’s 200 yard medley relay team of Amanda SchlorJennifer WilliamsAlienor Dalle and Hannah Cook completed the race in 1:53.59. The men’s 200 yard medley squad of Nick Gerosa, Marc Bennett, Santiago De Stefano Cavazos and Jake Bohland completed their race at a clip of 1:40.37.
 
In the women’s 1000 yard freestyle, Morgan Choffin placed 16th overall with a time of 11:08.24. Lillie Archer finished with a time of 11.42.63. Zeinah Abdelsalam touched the wall with a 13:16.68. Teresa Juncewicz improved her time by over a minute and completed the race at a personal-best 16:24.33.
 
In the men’s 1000 yard freestyle, Bohland finished highest on the leaderboard for the Bobcats with a time of 10:57.20. Gerosa (11:07.60) and Russ Sutton (13:14.31) also finished the 100 yard freestyle.
 
Choffin tied for second place in the C-Final of the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:16.00. Cook was right behind her teammate and finished fourth in the race with a time of 2:18.20. On the men’s side Bennett qualified for the B-Final and finished the race at a time of 2:00.11.
 
The women’s 200 yard freestyle relay team of Morgan BennetAlayna Crane, Cook and Choffin finished sixth with a time of 1:42.26.
 
At the end of the first day of competition, the women’s team is in eighth position with a score of 116.5. The men’s team collected 59 points and is in eighth place.

Day Two
 
Alienor Dalle finished second-highest among MEC swimmers in the 100 Yard Fly with a time of 59.88. Dalle won MEC Second Team honors for her performance.
 
Morgan Choffin (4:53.90) Hannah Cook (4:56.90) and Amanda Schlor (4:59.26) all competed in the 400 Yard Individual Medley. In the 200 Yard Free, Alayna Crane touched the wall in 2:01.90.
 
The 400 Yard Medley Relay team of Schlor, Jennifer WilliamsMorgan Bennet and Choffin finished their race in 4:20.26 in the finals.
 
On the men’s side, senior Marc Bennett received MEC Honorable Mention as he finished third-highest in the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a clip of 4:18.31. Jake Bohland completed the 200 Yard Free in 1:49.53. The 400 Yard Medley Relay team of Nick Gerosa, Bennett, Stephen Groves and Bohland finished the race in 3:45.76.
 
At the end of the second day, the women’s team is in eighth position with a score of 204.5. The men’s team accumulated 132 points and is in eighth place.
 
Both teams return to the pool on Friday as the action continues at the third day of competition at the GMAC/MEC Championships. The championship will conclude on Saturday.
