BRIDGEPORT — The Mountain East Conference has announced its first Players of the Week for the 2024 volleyball season.
The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
West Virginia Wesleyan middle blocker Emily Denison was selected as the MEC Offensive Player of the Week while Wheeling middle blocker Mady Winters collected Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Denison, a 5-11 sophomore from Belington, W.Va., came up big for the Lady Bobcats as they went 2-2 in a tournament at Coker (S.C.). Denison was credited with 56 kills in 18 sets for a solid 3.11 average per set and scored a total of 70 points for Wesleyan in the four weekend matches
Winters, a 6-0 senior from New Martinsville, W.Va., was a force at the net as the Cardinals went 1-3 against a talent-laden field at the University of West Florida Tournament. The Wheeling veteran, who finished second in the MEC in blocks a year ago, picked up where she left off with 18 total blocks (7 blocks, 11 block assists) for the weekend
