William David Dean, Sr.

William David Dean, Sr., age 86, of Buckhannon arrived at his heavenly home at 12:55 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025. He was born May 22, 1938, in Kesling Mill Community, Buckhannon, WV a son of the late Dexter William and Marguerite Fairy Westfall Dean. He was united in marriage on June 20, 1959, to Shirley Mae Harris Dean, the daughter of the late George and Geneva Goodwin Harris of Ellamore, WV.

In addition to his wife Shirley, he is also survived by four children: Brenda Kay Dean Snyder and husband Ron, William David Dean, Jr. and wife Debbie, Daniel Wesley Dean and wife Billie and Michael Ray Dean and wife Kelli all of Buckhannon; Grandchildren: Andrew and wife Alicia Snyder, Aaron and wife LaDawn Snyder, Nicholas and wife Jamie Snyder, Nicole Brown, John Dean, Christopher and wife Whitney Dean, Cierra and husband Michael Haddix, Jesse Dean and girlfriend Amber Howdershelt, Casey Dean and fiancé Sam Hawkins, Sarah Dean, Jeremiah Dean, Casey and Zack Cottrill, Natalie Thorpe and fiancé Josh Hoban, Zachary Dean, Camron Dean and fiancé Bethany Clevenger, Jordan and wife Kelsey Dean and Joey and wife Kayla Dean; Great Grandchildren: Brayden, Logan, Isabella, Maci and Fletcher; Payton, Maddie, Bryer, Bailee, Ruben and Thatcher; Maddie, Riley, Cendrix, Weslee, Waylon, Dawson and Brooke; brothers: Dwayne Dean and wife Vickie, Gary Dean and wife Deb; Sisters: Margaret “Sis” Strouth and Debbie and husband Kenny Rice; sister-in-law, Darlene Dean and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and father and mother-in-law, David was also preceded in death by one brother, Maynard Dean, and brother-in-law, Joe Strouth.

David served in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1963. He worked at Hazel Atlas Glass Co., Continental Can Co. and ALAMCO timber crew.

Hunting with his sons was one of his greatest joys besides spending time with his precious grandchildren! He loved collecting guns, hunting knives and old model vintage cars.

David was a member of Good Hope Tabernacle Church and a Christian by Faith.

A special “Thank-you” goes out to his special caregivers Lily, Abby, Debbie and WVU Hospice nurses and staff. In his final months here on earth, we will be forever grateful for the special care by his son Mike and daughter-in-law Kelli.

Friends will be received at the Way of Holiness Church on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, from 1-4:00 PM. The funeral hour will be presided over by Pastor Jerry Murrell, Pastor Holly J. Hoover and Pastor Guy Ware officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors following the services at the Church.At the request of the deceased, the family is honoring his wishes for cremation following the services. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.
