West Virginia State Police arrest man for murder in infant’s suspicious death

Zachary J. Williams, 28, of Jane Lew, was arrested and charged with murder and child abuse resulting in death following the suspicious death of an infant in Lewis County, according to West Virginia State Police.

Troopers with the West Virginia State Police Weston Detachment have arrested Zachary J. Williams, 28, of Jane Lew, in connection with the suspicious death of an infant.

On Sunday, May 25, 2025, troopers responded to a residence in the McWhorter area of Lewis County following reports of an unresponsive infant. Upon arrival, troopers initiated an investigation, and the child was subsequently pronounced deceased. An autopsy was conducted, and the findings have contributed to the ongoing investigation.

On Tuesday, May 27, Williams was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Central Regional Jail and is charged with Murder and Child Abuse Resulting in Death.

The investigation remains active, and no further details are being released at this time.
