West Virginia reports 395 new COVID-19 cases Friday, five additional deaths

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Friday that 395 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (1), Barbour (1), Lewis (2) and Randolph (3) counties.

A total of 21 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 81-year old male from Berkeley County, a 67-year old female from Kanawha County, a 72-year old female from Cabell County, a 68-year old female from Kanawha County, and an 88-year old male from Ohio County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of April 30, 2021, there have been 2,715,379 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 153,128 total cases and 2,679 deaths,” according to a press release.

About 7,089 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 143,360 people have recovered and 2,679 have died. The daily percent positive was 4.24%.

A total of 611,595 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
