The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 3,111 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s a decrease of 224 since the last report.
Locally, reported active case totals are: Upshur (34), Barbour (44), Lewis (25), Randolph (29) and Webster (19) counties. In Upshur County, that’s a decrease of nine active cases in the last 24 hours.
Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 81-year old male from Ohio County and an 88-year old female from Brooke County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 2, 2022, there are currently 3,111 active COVID-19 cases statewide. There have been two deaths reported since the last report, with a total of 7,163 deaths attributed to COVID-19,” according to a press release.
About 337 residents are hospitalized with the virus, with 49 currently in intensive care and 14 on a ventilator. The daily percent positive was 16.41%.
About 55% of the state has been vaccinated for COVID-19.
