Wesleyan held to under 250 yards of offense in 31-0 setback to West Liberty

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-4) football team lost to West Liberty (2-2) 31-0 at Ross Field in front of a Family Weekend crowd on Saturday.
 
WVWC Leaders
Jujuan Linzy made five receptions for 96 yards. Deontre Logan recorded a team-high 10 tackles including a sack. Kobe Vinegar contributed nine tackles and DeQuandre Edwards made eight tackles including one for loss.
 
West Liberty Leaders
West Virginia transfer quarterback Jack Allison went 16-for-23 for 229 yards and two touchdowns. Isaiah Robinson caught three passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns. 
 
Inside the First Half
West Liberty began its first drive at the Wesleyan 32 yard line. The Hilltoppers went for it on fourth down and three from the 25 yard line. The roll of the dice paid off when Robinson made a sensational diving touchdown catch in the end zone. 
 
On the ensuing WVWC drive, the Bobcats drove into West Liberty territory before Maceo Christmas intercepted Nathan Payne at midfield with 7:09 left in the first quarter. 
 
Early in the second quarter, the Wesleyan offense was on the move again. The Bobcats got all the way to the Hilltopper 21 yard line before the drive stalled out on downs. 
 
In the final moments of the first half, J’Aire Pritchett picked off the pass and took it back down the left sideline for a touchdown. West Liberty led 14-0 at halftime. 
 
Inside the Second Half
The Hilltoppers turned their focus to running the ball and running off time in the second half. A field goal put the visitors ahead 17-0 before they found the end zone again just before the end of the third quarter. On third down with 24 seconds remaining in the period, Allison slung the ball out to Robinson, who did the rest racing for a 77 yard touchdown. 
 
A fourth quarter touchdown by West Liberty rounded out the scoring on the afternoon.
 
Up Next
The Bobcats will travel to Wheeling on Saturday, Oct. 2 for a 2 p.m. kickoff against the Cardinals.
