VA veteran’s assistance event set for Saturday at American Legion Post 7

Buckhannon-Upshur scored twice in the opening four minutes and never looked back in a commanding 5-0 Big 10 win over Preston. Rylen Carlyle scored twice, while Bella Nottingham and Katie Queen combined for the shutout.

Buckhannon-Upshur scored four goals in five minutes and rolled past Preston 10-0 in a mercy-rule rout. Coby Smith led the Bucs with two goals and two assists as B-U earned its second straight 10-0 shutout.

Buckhannon-Upshur trailed No. 7 Philip Barbour just 14-7 at halftime, but six turnovers and depth issues fueled a 35-7 loss. Landyn Carpenter ran for 268 yards as the Colts’ power game took over, overshadowing an improved 321-yard effort by the Bucs.

The Upshur County Commission will request additional matching funds for the county park tennis court renovation. A damaged subgrade has added $83,839.35 to the project’s cost.

A veterans outreach event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Upshur County Senior Center. VA staff and American Legion Post 7 will help veterans and surviving spouses with enrollment, disability claims and earned benefits; bring a DD214.
