Upshur County Memorial Day observance scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29

BUCKHANNON — Buckhannon VFW Post 3663 and American Legion Post 7 are jointly hosting a Memorial Day observance Sunday.

The ceremony is set for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, one day prior to the Monday, May 30 federal holiday, at Heavner Cemetery. Buckhannon mayor Robbie Skinner is scheduled to deliver a mayor’s welcome and opening remarks.

Memorial Day is observed annually on the last Monday of May to pay tribute to the women and men who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day differs from Veterans Day in that Veterans Day honors all veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces who are currently serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Memorial Day specially commemorates the lives of people who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
