Former B-U standout swimmer Cadence Vincent competes in U.S. Olympic Team Trials

BUCKHANNON — Cadence Vincent, a freshman at the University of Alabama and former Buckhannon-Upshur High School standout swimmer, is making waves at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis. Competing in both the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle, Vincent is swimming against the country’s top athletes for the chance to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

On Tuesday, Vincent competed in the 100m freestyle, placing second in her heat with a time of 55.85, which secured her a 40th-place finish overall. She is set to swim again on Saturday, June 22, in the 50m freestyle event, continuing her quest to join Team USA for the Paris 2024 Olympics, slated for July 26 to August 11.

The trials are being held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Vincent, a three-time prep All-American and West Virginia state record-setter in the 50m freestyle, had a storied high school career at B-UHS that included multiple WVSSAC High School State Championships. According to the University of Alabama website, she also posted three top-10 finishes at the 2023 YMCA National Short Course Championships.

Alabama’s swimming and diving team highlights Vincent as one of 10 student-athletes representing the Crimson Tide at the trials. They join several alumni who have already qualified for international teams.

Running through Sunday, June 23, the trials schedule includes prelims starting at 11 a.m. each day and finals sessions broadcast live on NBC in primetime at 8 p.m., with additional coverage available on Peacock and other NBC Sports platforms.

Vincent, the daughter of Eddie and Tracey Vincent, is majoring in Kinesiology.
