Three deaths, 96 new cases of COVID-19 reported in West Virginia on Thursday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 96 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Three additional deaths have also been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 49-year old female from Ohio County, a 59-year old male from Logan County and an 85-year old female from Logan County. 

“The passing of these West Virginians is reported with a heavy heart and we extend our sympathies to their loved ones,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary, in a press release.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on July 30, 2020, there have been 277,343 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 6,422 total cases and 115 deaths,” according to the release.

More than 100 people in West Virginia are now hospitalized with the virus, a new record. Forty people are in the ICU and 19 are on a ventilator, both new highs as well, according to the DHHR.

New cases were reported Thursday in Berkeley, Boone, Cabell, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Marshall, McDowell, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Pendleton, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Taylor, Tyler, Wood and Wyoming counties.

About 1,604 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 4,703 people have recovered and 115 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.6%.
