BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon recognized National Wear Red Day on February 4, 2022. The national recognition occurs on the first Friday in February to help raise awareness about heart disease as the leading cause of death among Americans, especially women.
West Virginia has the highest rate of heart disease in the nation and nationally, one in every four deaths is from heart disease. Risk factors for heart disease include smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, being overweight, physical inactivity, and diabetes. It is largely preventable. To reduce your risk of heart disease don’t smoke, eat a healthy diet, get at least 30 minutes of physical activity five days a week and have your medical provider check your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels.
