WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (6-6-4, 4-6-4) men’s soccer team earned a point versus West Liberty (2-9-4, 2-8-4) on Sunday (Oct. 23) afternoon at West Family Complex. With the draw, the Bobcats secured a spot in this year’s Mountain East Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament.
In the first half, the Bobcats dominated most of the game and had over 60% possession and outshot the Hilltoppers 6-2. A few chances from Chris Irakoze and Casey Bunker nearly gave the Bobcats a lead in the first half but none were able to find the back of the net. The half ended at 0-0.
In the second half, the Hilltoppers had the first strike at the scoresheet. In the 62nd minute, Jamie Redmond was able to find Daniel Rovira on a through ball in which a well struck ball was able to beat Bryant Sheffield. In just 21 seconds later, Javier De Ona Garcia was able to find the head of Hunter Dierlam on a freekick and into the goal. The California native now has four goals in the season. Dierlam continued to run the midfield for the Bobcats and eventually was able to close out the half leveled at 1-1.
The WVWC Bobcats are back at home Wednesday (Oct. 26) for a match versus Frostburg State at 1 p.m. from Cebe Ross Field.
